The Appearance

5'8", 119 pounds, Japanese and blood type A. Hair color dark brown and eye color the same. Light is most often seen in a tan or slightly darker suit, and his workspace and living spaces are always meticulously clean. He has a strong tendency to scowl when he thinks, and often turns his back to those around him when he does. He attends any necessary social functions, but often will duck out at the first opportunity and, while he seems quite popular with women, he's never been known to stay with one for any significant length of time unless she holds a position of power beneficial to him. He appears, on the surface, to be an extremely intelligent, happy, social creature with strong networking skills and an overly strong focus on work, but he has never given true depth to any relationship as of yet. He has yet to meet anyone of what he would consider comparable skill and has a tendency to act as if those around him are sweet for their good intentions, but still incredibly stupid.

The Background

Born in New Tokyo-3, Light had the privilege of being the son of a high ranking official in the NPA, Yagami Soichiro, who instilled in him a strong sense of justice and a strong desire to improve the human race. Be that through laws or science, it never much mattered to Light, all he knew was that the world they were in was rotten with immoral and worthless people whose only goals were to improve their own lives at the expense of others. He was always known for his exceptional intelligence and strong desire to see Justice served. He scored repeatedly near or at the top in the nation in tests, always the very best in both tennis and academics. In middle school he gave up tennis due to the lack of challenge and turned his attention to his studies even more. When he went to University, he went to the best, pursuing both forensic science and criminal justice degrees. Upon graduation, he was recruited by SEELE as a young face who understood science and could keep a handle on the NERV commander, Gendou Ikari. He took the codename Kira when he began working within NERV and has since been working to push forward SEELE's goals. When he learned exactly what the project entailed, he became extremely enthusiastic about it and actively assisted in any way he could. He was even known to research in his spare time, looking for any missed options or steps by the main research team, unwilling to trust them with what he considered to be the future of the human race. He is regarded by his coworkers at NERV as a kind, warm young man who seems to be working with the sincere belief that their project will save the human race. As a member of SEELE, he is obligated to keep a close watch on Gendou Ikari and the rest of the team to ensure that the project is proceeding as planned. He has no moral issues with the means to their end goal and subsequently can be seen standing quietly by as even the most atrocious orders are given – so long as he perceives them to be in the best interest of the goal.
